RESEARCH AREAS

Leslie Robinson, Director
Phone: (901) 678-1667, Office 334

This specialty area is housed within the Clinical Psychology Program. We also welcome the participation of nonclinical faculty and students. Based upon the interests of our faculty and students, currently available behavioral medicine clinical and research activities include the investigation of psychological and interdisciplinary factors in the prevention, etiology, evaluation, measurement, epidemiology, and treatment of health risk behaviors and diseases. Promotion of healthful behaviors and evaluation of the psychosocial consequences of disease also receive serious attention.

Representative areas of research interest in the program include investigations on the epidemiology and management of smoking, physical activity, eating patterns and weight control, the health of women and minority groups, cancer, gambling, bereavement and end of life issues, and sleep disorders. This specialty has a strong research emphasis and is well-suited to students who aspire to academic and/or medical setting positions as career goals.
