Preschool Numeracy Indicators

A faculty research grant from The University of Memphis to Randy G. Floyd (2004) and a faculty research grant from The University of Memphis to Robin Hojnoski (2005) provided financial support for development of and research supporting the use of the PNIs.

We have provided folders and files below that will allow others to learn more about the measurement properties of the PNIs as well as to provide access to PNIs materials. For a detailed description of the emerging measurement properties of the PNIs, please review the following reference:

Floyd, R. G., Hojnoski, R. L., & Key, J. (2006). Preliminary evidence of technical adequacy of the Preschool Numeracy Indicators. School Psychology Review, 35, 627-644.

Below are supplemental materials described in footnotes in Floyd, Hojnoski, and Key (2006):

Table of CBM math probes

Original Materials
Below are the combination record forms and direction forms used for the first round of data collection (as described in Floyd et al., 2006):

Oral Counting Fluency
One-to-One Correspondence Counting Fluency
Number Naming Fluency
Quantity Comparison Fluency

Below are the materials for administering the probes used were used for the first round of data collection (as described in Floyd et al., 2006):

One-to-One Correspondence Counting Fluency
Number Naming Fluency
Quantity Comparison Fluency

Revised Materials
After the first round of data collection, the PNIs materials were revised somewhat.

  1. Some wording in the directions was simplified.
  2. Decision rules for discontinuing the administration after completion of sample items and initial item were made more liberal.
  3. Test records and directions for each probe were separated. A two-page test record was prepared, and a two-page document of directions was prepared. Materials were organized for a standard order of administration: Quantity Comparison Fluency, Oral Counting Fluency, One-to-One Correspondence Counting Fluency, and Number Naming Fluency.
  4. Eight alternate forms of Number Naming Fluency and Quantity Comparison Fluency were prepared for repeated measurement. (No alternate forms are needed for Oral Counting Fluency and One-to-One Correspondence Counting Fluency.)
Below is the zip file containing all of the revised record forms for each alternate form:
