Projects

  • ARIES
ARIES addresses one serious practical limitation of today’s technology enhanced science classrooms, namely that they require close cooperation among teachers, policy makers, and educators.  Many teachers are resistant to change their curriculum.  ARIES will be available to students (and non students) via the Internet.  Therefore, science teachers in both high school and higher institutions could assign ARIES as homework, if they decide not to devote class time to it.
  • AutoTutor
AutoTutor is a web-based computer tutor architecture that simulates the dialog moves of effective human tutors.
  • AutoTutor Emotions
This research investigates strategies, processes, practices, and environments that are likely to assist the learner in the active construction of knowledge, particularly at deeper levels of comprehension and problem solving.
  • Coh-Metrix
Using advanced technologies, Coh-Metrix will allow readers, writers, educators, and researchers to instantly gauge the difficulty of written material, based on the target audience.
  • iSTART
iSTART (Interactive Strategy Trainer for Active Reading and Thinking) is an automated strategy trainer designed to help students become better readers via multi-media technologies.
  • Sandia Labs
This project will provide the Navy specific software products that may be readily adapted for application to simulation trainers.  In addition, the project will provide the Navy with generalized software capabilities that may be easily tailored for use with a wide range of simulation trainers.
  • Plate Tectonics
The tasks of interest in this research require a deep understanding of the material rather than the mere accumulation of shallow facts. In particular, we will investigate tasks that require (a) multiple sources of information, (b) deep reasoning about scientific and technical content, and (c) the writing of multi-sentence compositions.
  • Quaid Tool
QUAID is a software tool that assists survey methodologists, social scientists, and designers of questionnaires in improving the wording, syntax, and semantics of questions.
